Our initial analysis is that this seems to be an evolution of some ongoing DDOS traffic we've seen and been combating. We're going to continue to do post-incident analysis, but as things are stable now, we're resolving this incident.

Monitoring
The API has stabilized. We were seeing heavy traffic hitting the API that was causing it to utilize all available DB connections. We're still digging into what the traffic was and if it was some kind of DOS attack.

We're seeing too many connections our primary Postgres Database and are tracking down the source of the connections.
